The space under the Gardiner underwent a major transformation last year. While in the winter, you can skate along the Bentway skating trail, a 220 m lazy figure 8 that loops between four outdoor “rooms”, in the summer it’s just as fun. Dubbed the Bentway Beer Garden, the patio is open from noon to 9 pm every Sunday from July 7 to August 25 with picnic tables, string lighting and live music to enjoy. Offering a shaded overhead and a break from the summer heat, the Bentway Beer Garden is one of the best ways to cool down this summer. Check out some of their hottest events they have going on!
Communal Table with the Depanneur
Every Thursday night from June 13to August 22, head to the Bentway for communal dining with your neighbours! This weekly event features chefs, food-offerings and conversation-starters curated by The Depanneur, an interactive food venue showcasing the culinary diversity we have in Toronto. The weekly dinners will explore the city’s diverse culinary traditions, so make sure to pre-register if you’re a foodie or someone who simply loves to eat!
Yoga with Tribe Fitness
Every Sunday from June 16 to August 25, you can take a free outdoor yoga class from 7pm to 8pm with Tribe Fitness. Tribe is a local fitness community that advocates for social good. Their classes are fun, challenging and inclusive to all, so head on over if yoga is your jam!
Every Sunday from July 7 until August 25, the beer garden is host to Sunday Social, with free outdoor concerts, games, food and drink. Head to the Bentway on a Sunday afternoon to listen to Toronto’s hottest musical acts on the Exclaim! Stage while enjoying cold drinks under their covered patio!
The Bentway Block Party
On Saturday July 7, the Bentway is hosting a free, all-day, all-ages block party from noon to 10 pm. Throughout the day there will be roaming live musical performances, family-friendly games, extensive art installations and delicious food and drink.
The Gardiner Expressway was built almost six decades ago and until the beginning of 2018, it left much to be desired. The transformation started in January 2018, with the opening of the Bentway skating trail, which serves as a concrete rollerblading and walking path in the summer.
It’s growing into a unique, innovative public space that acts as a gathering place for the city. It stretches from Strachan Avenue to Bathurst Street intertwining seven different neighbourhoods and acting as a gateway to the waterfront. It will continue to offer year-round events including gardens, festivals, public markets, a skate trail, recreational amenities, public art, special exhibitions and more.
From tai chi, to interactive workshops, arts festivals and more, there are tons of events going on under the Bentway this summer (check the event schedule out here!). If you’re looking for something fun to do this summer, head over to the Bentway Beer to see all this amazing space has to offer!
