Nina on the Importance of Gratitude in Work and Life
Gratitude is so much more than sitting around the dinner table on a Special Holiday giving thanks. Gratitude is the practice of being thankful, not only when something is given or happens to you, but for every little thing in your life, from the breaths you take, to your relationships, to your health. Gratitude, and focusing on all the things you have to be appreciative for, can make you happier and more successful. If you haven’t started using gratitude in your daily life, you’re going to want to hear what Nina has to say about it!
In this interview, we asked Nina a few questions on the importance of gratitude when it comes to both her professional and personal life. From the role of gratitude in the success of her flourishing real estate career, to what she does on a daily basis that brings her joy, take a look at how Nina uses gratitude and why she thinks it’s so essential.
1. What are you most grateful for in your life and career as a realtor?
“My career has been very rewarding in more ways than I can count. I’m extremely grateful for all the wonderful people that have come into my life. I’m blessed with wonderful team members and assistants who work so diligently behind the scenes. Although they work for the team, they’re really working first and foremost for our clients.
I’m also blessed with a highly skilled and creative team manager (that also keeps me in line, by the way), and a wonderful client care and relations manager that truly cares for my clients, my team and I. I have so many reasons to be grateful!
My rewards also come from the daily experiences with the clients I work for. My day-to-day experiences vary from very delightful to very challenging, and all this has helped me grow as an individual. I now see where my strengths are and where I want to funnel my energy into. I’m so grateful to those who enter my life, that I want to be the very best for them. That’s just a wonderful feeling to have.”
2. How has gratitude helped you succeed in your career?
“When you’re grateful, you take nothing for granted. You appreciate every referral, every family you work with- you appreciate the good and the bad, because it all comes with the territory.
I’m so grateful to have my client’s trust! Some people go through this career not knowing how to make the next sale. You see, to me they’re not sales; they’re families, unique families, unique individuals. I’m grateful for each and every one of them. Being part of their lives is such a great honour.”
3. What do you do on a daily basis that you enjoy?
“Although I typically have a heavy schedule, I always find time to cook. I love my food; I mean it, I really love my food! I love the richness in colours and textures and I always create meals from scratch and without recipes. Actually, I hate following recipes, haha. It frustrates my creativity! I love trying new ingredients and making delightful meals.
From flops to winners...well, they’re really winners in my mind, I love creating food, sitting down at the dinner table with a glass of wine and either listening to music or reading. I also never forget to pray and thank God for all he gives us.
On a weekly basis I also volunteer my time to help others for about 4 hrs per week. That grounds me and reminds me be thankful for everything I have in life.”
4. Do you have a gratitude routine?
“It’s so strange. I think of the wonderful things in my life at the strangest of times, but typically I always do when I’m jogging. I don’t know what it is, but I always do. At night, I always pray to God in appreciation for all He has given me. I’m grateful and thankful when I open my eyes each and every morning and I thank God daily for my life. I take absolutely nothing for granted. Everything in life is a gift and I’m always thankful for all of it.”
5. How do you stay motivated when you experience obstacles and setbacks in your career?
“I’m in this career for the long haul. Obstacles are just temporary. I never look for an easy way out. When markets are tough, I just work smarter and harder to make sure I get my clients their desired outcome. I’m very transparent with my clients as well. If we need to talk things through, we’ll sit down and discuss openly. No hidden agendas, just open and frank communication. My clients always appreciate my honesty and they know they can trust me.”
6. Tell us about something you’re really looking forward to in the future
“Surrounding myself with positive, high energy, highly ethical agents to work alongside me, people that show themselves grateful and appreciative for the trust others grant them. I’m currently blessed in so many ways and for the future. I’m grateful to have a very successful career with a balanced schedule, balancing work, health, life, leisure, volunteering, travel and rest. I don’t ask for anything more.”
