Finding your dream home has to be one of the best feelings in the world. It’s the home you’ll wake up to every morning, spend your time in, and create lifelong memories with your family in. But how do you know when you’ve found the one? Choosing a home is a big decision. It’s one of, if not the biggest investments you’ll make in your life, so you want to make sure it’s the perfect match for you. Don’t settle for a home that you’re not completely in love with. Here are 5 ways you’ll know you’ve found the house of your dreams.

1. You Can Imagine Yourself Living In It
If you step inside a house and immediately feel like you can imagine yourself living in it, it’s a good indicator it’s your dream home. Do you find yourself picturing how you would set up the furniture in the living room, or imagine your family eating breakfast at the cozy nook in the kitchen? If so, it’s a pretty strong sign it’s the one.

2. It Matches Your Must-Have List
When you’re searching for your dream home, you’ll have a list of must-haves you’ll want to check off. This could include anything from an open concept floor plan, to a certain number of bedrooms, an ensuite in the master bedroom, proximity to school and work, a quiet or bustling neighbourhood, and so on. If you notice a home matches all of your must-haves, it sounds like it’s meant for you!

3. You Constantly Compare Other Houses To It
You’ll likely visit a lot of homes when you’re trying to find “the one”. Is there one that keeps sticking out in your head every time you go to look at others? Do you constantly compare other houses to the first or second house you saw? If you can’t stop thinking about that cozy ranch-style bungalow with the gorgeous backyard, huge farmhouse kitchen and the perfect number of bedrooms, it’s time to make your decision and make it yours!

4. You Get That Gut Feeling
Your gut will never steer you wrong. If you walk into a house and your instincts tell you this is the one, it very well may be. Listening to your gut is important, especially when you’re making a big decision like buying a house. Did you get goosebumps when you walked inside? Did you get a strong feeling that it was the one for you? Many homeowners can tell they’ve found their dream home because their gut tells them they have. Don’t ignore your instincts! If you have a good feeling in your gut, it’s happening for a reason!

5. You’ve Gotten The “OK” From a Home Inspector
If a home checks off all your must-haves, you can’t stop thinking about it and imagining yourself in it, and your instincts tell you it’s the one, get it looked at by a qualified Home Inspector. A professional Home Inspector will be able to ensure the house is in good shape with no surprises.  He/she can also give you an overall view to help you prepare for future maintenance repairs.  Once the home is yours and you’re waiting to take possession, think of bringing in a designer who will help you really make it “Your Home”.  They can give you design ideas and suggestions on how to make the house more functional and comfortable, so it will truly be the house you’ve been dreaming of.

If you’re on the search for the house of your dreams, ask yourself these five things. If you find yourself checking off all of the above, you know you’ve found the perfect home for you!
