With fall on our heels, it’s the perfect time to start making cozy updates to our homes. The chilly weather is the perfect excuse to add simple touches that will make your space feel warm and welcoming. One of the best feelings is stepping inside a cozy home after being outside on a brisk fall day, and I’ve rounded up my favourite ideas to amp up the comfort this fall. From adding texture with cozy layers to making a few seasonal swaps, here are 6 ideas to make your space cozier for fall.

1. Add More Pillows and Throws
Pile up pillows and add cozy throw blankets to your couches and seating areas. Warm knit and wool blankets are the perfect accompaniment to family movie night on a chilly fall evening. Adding more pillows gives your space a more layered, textured look that’s perfect to pair with a warm blanket. You can also consider adding larger pillows on the floor for extra seating space and added relaxation.

2. Put on a Table Runner
The warmth of summer calls for stark, airy tables, but when fall rolls around, adding a table runner is a great way to dress up your dinner table. They draw the eye in at any dinner party, and give your dinner table an elevated, layered look. They’re a perfect base for centerpieces and candles, and will protect your table from the heat of any dishes that come straight from the oven.

3. Layer with Rugs
Rugs are a fantastic way to add warmth to your space. They make your home feel cozy and welcoming and are key to keeping your bare feet warm on the cold floor. Add rugs to any areas that need extra warmth come fall- your foyer, beside your bed, in front of your kitchen sink, in the hallways, under your dining table, and of course, in your living room if you don’t have one there already.

4.Play with Seasonal Patterns
Seasonal patterns like tartan, herringbone and tweed are cozy additions to your space come fall. However, make sure not to go overboard with patterns. Adding them in small doses that work with your existing colour scheme is the best way to incorporate fall patterns. For example, if your living room has lots of creams and neutrals, add a tartan blanket with camel and cream in the design.

5. Layer Your Bedding
Switch up your light, airy bedding from summer to heavier layers for fall. Layer on more pillows and a throw in a seasonal pattern or colour at the foot of your bed. Switch your cotton sheets with flannel cotton ones and switch up your duvet to one that’s perfect for fall.

6. Switch Out Accessories
Accessories like kitchen floor runners, towels, stool covers, and plant pots are easy and affordable to switch out with the new season. Swap brightly coloured accessories for more muted tones and seasonal textures. This will give your home a warm and cozy vibe without making too many big changes.
